At the Opoku Ware Hall of AAMUSTED (formerly known as the University of Education, Winneba – Kumasi campus), Owusu is reportedly the “chief priest” who oversees specific traditional rites.

On Friday, August 25, 2023, Mr. Owusu was one among a group of students living in Opoku Ware II Hall who were apparently participating in activities on the hall’s grounds when his clothing caught fire and he was killed.

Owusu suffered critical injuries as a result of these acts. He was taken urgently for medical care to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

But despite all of their efforts, Prosper eventually passed away from his wounds, bringing a tragic end to his academic career.

Unverified footage of the incident were posted on social media, showing a person racing across campus wearing burning clothing while onlookers attempt to douse the flames.

The university administration is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence at the Hall.
