Brazil: For the first time in 111 years, Pele’s Santos were demoted. After losing 2-1 at home to Fortaleza in the last games of Brazil’s Serie A, Pele’s former team Santos was demoted for the first time in their 111-year existence.

Along with Sao Paulo and Flamengo, Santos was one of just three teams to never be demoted from the top division in Brazil.

But the coastal team’s terrible home stretch run of play—five games without a win—saw them fall to 17th place in the rankings with 43 points.

With 43 points at the end of the season, Santos FC was one point behind Bahia and two behind Vasco da Gama.

After the game, Santos FC supporters fought with local law enforcement, who broke up their attempts to take over the field.

With 70 points, Palmeiras have emerged victorious, two points clear of Gremio, who had to settle for second place.

Endrick, who is headed to Real Madrid, was essential to their season with eleven goals.
